Modern Psychology and its importance in Hypnotherapy today

For simplicity I have broken Modern Psychology down into four basic blocks. However; there are many aspects to each block and deep scientific reasearch behind it.

Positive Psychology is the scientific study of human flourishing and optimal positive functioning. Positive psychology uses what is going right with the human mind and behaviour and how to foster these types of well-being.

It is the study of what makes life most worth living. Such as: happiness, loving our self, our inner strengths and virtues that enable individuals to thrive and flourish in life.

Evolutionary Psychology explains useful mental and psychological traits as adaptations to ‘stone age’ living. Such as memory, perception, fear, anxiety, anger or language. The same applies to many behaviours.

Problems arise as we now live in a manmade environment that our brains are not adapted to.

Neuropsychology is a branch of psychology that is concerned with how the brain correlates with the mind and the rest of the nervous system. Then, how this influences a person’s thought, emotions and behaviours.

It does not rely on manmade theories to explain a persons’ problems.

Using modern psychology in therapy is
logical. It makes sense to use
knowledge of how the brain works for
real and not some psychological dogma,
theorised when scientific
understanding was not available.

Neuroscience is a branch (as neurophysiology) of science that deals with the anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, or molecular biology of nerves and nervous tissue and especially their relation to behaviour and learning.

We also need to bear in mind that there are different parts to the brain, there are four main types of neurons and the Central Nervous System which has the Sympathetic Nervous System and the Parasympathetic Nervous System.
